Seleucid Kingdom, 138-129 BC, silver tetradrachm, Antiochus VII
The prophet Daniel received a vision of future kings battling for control of the Holy Land. The Seleucid Kingdom which descended from one of Alexander The Great's generals is the Kingdom of the North.
Antiochus VII ruled The Holy Land during the 2nd Century BC. His image appears on the obverse of this well preserved 2100 year old coin. This Syrian king first granted permission for the creation of the Jerusalem mint.
Coins from that mint told the story of the Jewish people for a 300 year period that included the lifetime of Christ.
Surviving coins of that period bear witness to the historical accuracy of the Bible. Jewish leaders and Roman governors commemorated include Alexander Jannaeus (Widow's mite), King Herod, King Agrippa, Pontius Pilate, Porcius Festus and Antonius Felix
