Barber Quarters 1907-1916
Barber (or Liberty Head) Quarters are named for their designer, Charles A. Barber. They were made from 1892 to 1916. Like some other series, the design was also used on other denominations like the Dime and Half Dollar. There are two major varieties of the 1892 reverse depending on how the eagles wing covers the “E” in “UNITED”; the ones where only half the “E” is covered are the more difficult to find. Pleasing in its appearance, it has long been a favorite of collectors around the world.
Good reference works for those more interested in this type of coin are “The Complete Encyclopedia of U.S. and Colonial Coins” by Walter Breen and “The Complete Guide to Barber Quarters” by David Lawrence.
